Google ads cost in Pacific Beach depends heavily on whether you're selling to tourists, to the 20-somethings on Garnet, or to the homeowners north of Grand and in Crown Point. Across all three, local businesses typically pay $3 to $35 per click, with hospitality and beach rentals at the cheap end and home services and medical at the top. Volume is high in summer and drops off a cliff in winter. Here's how to plan around that.
Three PB audiences
Pacific Beach (92109, which also covers Mission Beach and part of Bay Park) has about 45,000 residents. The Garnet Avenue and Mission Boulevard strip is bars, surf shops, tattoo parlors, and vacation rentals, drawing a young renter crowd and a steady stream of visitors. North PB (Pacific Beach Drive up toward Tourmaline and Bird Rock) and Crown Point are quieter, with owner-occupied homes, families, and older residents who've been there since PB was cheap. And Mission Bay itself brings watersports, boat services, and hotel traffic.
A Google Ads campaign that tries to serve all three with one setup usually wastes 30-40% of its budget. Pick your audience and build around it.
Cost-per-click ranges in 92109
- Vacation rentals, surf lessons, bike and kayak rental: $1-$5 (huge summer volume, mostly tourists)
- Bars, restaurants, coffee: $1-$4 (usually not worth it via search)
- Tattoo, barbers, salons, nails: $2-$7
- Fitness, yoga, personal training: $3-$10
- Physical therapy, chiropractic, urgent care: $10-$30
- Dentists (a lot of competition along Garnet and Grand): $8-$25
- Plumbing, electrical, handyman (older beach cottages, salt air corrosion): $22-$55
- Property management, cleaning for short-term rentals: $8-$20
- Auto detailing, tint, repair (Bay Park side): $4-$12
Tourist clicks: filter them or use them
In July, a big share of "near me" searches in PB come from phones that live in Arizona, Nevada, or the Inland Empire. If you're a surf school, that's your customer. If you're a dentist, it's waste. Google's location options let you choose "people in or regularly in" versus "people in" your area. For year-round local businesses, choose "people in" and then also add a location exclusion for hotel-heavy blocks if you can see the waste in the search terms report. For hospitality, leave it open and add Arizona and Nevada as separate campaigns with their own budgets, because that's who's coming.
Seasonality is extreme
PB is the most seasonal ad market in the county after Coronado. Memorial Day through Labor Day: everything is up. Rentals, rentals, and more rentals. Bars packed. Streets gridlocked. Clicks for tourist-facing businesses double or triple and cost per click rises because everyone's bidding. Then September through May: June Gloom on the front end, cold water and empty sidewalks on the back end, and search volume for hospitality drops 60-70%.
Home services see the opposite pattern. Owners in North PB and Crown Point do their remodels, repipes, and deck work in fall and winter when contractors are available and the tourists are gone. Plumbers and electricians should budget flat or slightly up in October-February, not down.
Targeting the beach without paying for the ocean
- Skip radius targeting; half a circle around PB is water.
- Use 92109 as the core, with 92037 (La Jolla, Bird Rock) added for higher-ticket services and 92117 (Clairemont, Bay Ho) for trades that don't mind the drive.
- Mission Beach is inside 92109 but is a different world: almost entirely rentals and tourists. Trades may want to add it as a negative location.
- For walk-in businesses on Garnet, a 1-mile radius with a heavy bid boost, plus the wider ZIP at a lower bid.
If you're also trying to reach PB residents with Meta, the neighborhood's density makes tight Meta targeting work well; the Facebook Ads Management in North Park for Local Businesses guide covers a similar dense urban setup that translates to PB, and the Facebook Ads Management in Mission Valley for Local Businesses guide handles the Bay Park and Morena side of the same market.
Budgets that fit PB
- Hospitality and rentals: $1,500-$5,000/mo in summer, $300-$800/mo in winter. Actually change the budget; don't leave it flat.
- Personal services and fitness: $600-$1,500/mo; check your free SEO & AI score first because for these, the map listing does most of the work
- Medical, dental, PT: $2,000-$4,000/mo
- Trades and home services: $2,000-$4,500/mo, steady year-round
- Short-term rental cleaning and management: $1,500-$3,000/mo with a spring push before the summer contracts get signed
What management should cost
For a PB account at $1,000-$5,000 in monthly spend, a flat $400-$1,200 a month is fair. The one thing to insist on: the manager should adjust budgets and bids seasonally, and you should see it in the change history. A PB campaign that runs the same in January as in July is being ignored. How Arbor runs your ads is a flat Growth plan from $2,500 a month with the ad management and website included, and seasonal budget shifts are part of the job, not an extra.
PB is cheap to click, brutal in seasonality, and full of visitors who'll never come back. Decide who you're selling to, filter the rest, and move your budget with the calendar.
