Google Ads for Florida Painters: Seasonality, Costs, and Targeting

Google Ads for Florida painters: what clicks cost in Tampa, Orlando and Miami, when demand peaks, and how to target ZIPs so you stop paying for bad leads.

On this page

Google Ads for Florida painters works when you respect two things most agencies ignore: the weather and the map. Exterior painting in Florida is a fall-through-spring business, interior work fills the summer gaps, and a click from the wrong side of the Howard Frankland can cost you a wasted trip. This is how we approach it for painters we work with across Tampa Bay and the rest of the state.

The Florida painting calendar

Exterior demand really opens up in October once the afternoon storms stop, and it runs strong through April. That overlaps with snowbird season, which matters if you serve Clearwater, Sun City Center, or the Gulf side down through Sarasota and Venice. Seasonal residents arrive in November, look at their stucco, and call someone before the holidays.

June through September is when exterior searches slump. Daily 3pm storms make scheduling miserable, and homeowners know it. Shift budget toward interior repaints, cabinet refinishing, and commercial work that can happen indoors. Don't pause. A painter who pauses every summer loses the account history that keeps their cost-per-click sane in October.

What clicks cost by market

Rough ranges we see for painting keywords in Florida:

  • Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater: roughly $8 to $25 per click for "house painters near me" style terms, higher in South Tampa and the beaches.
  • Orlando: similar to Tampa, with heavy competition from franchise painters around Lake Nona and Winter Garden.
  • Miami/Fort Lauderdale: often $15 to $35, and a lot of Spanish-language search you'd miss with English-only campaigns.
  • Naples/Fort Myers: fewer searches, wealthier homes, expensive clicks in season and cheap ones in August.

A realistic cost per lead lands somewhere between $50 and $150 depending on market and how tight your targeting is. Exterior jobs on a 2,500 sq ft block home run several thousand dollars, so that math usually works. It does not work if half your clicks come from apartment renters in Channelside.

Targeting: draw the map you'll actually drive

A 25-mile radius around Tampa covers Brandon, Wesley Chapel, Clearwater, and half of Pasco. That's three separate drive-time realities. If your crew is based in Riverview, a job in Palm Harbor means US-19 traffic and the bridge. Build ad groups by zone instead:

  1. Core zone: the ZIPs you can reach in under 30 minutes. For a Brandon painter that's 33510, 33511, 33569, 33578, 33594. Bid highest here.
  2. Secondary zone: 30 to 50 minutes. Bid 20 to 30 percent lower.
  3. Excluded: everything across a bridge you don't want to cross daily, and downtown high-rise ZIPs like 33602 where the searcher is usually a renter.

In Hernando and Pasco, the new subdivisions around Spring Hill, Land O' Lakes, and Zephyrhills are full of builder-grade paint that's five to seven years old. Those ZIPs are cheaper to advertise in than Hyde Park and the houses are ready.

Keywords that book vs keywords that waste money

"Exterior painters Tampa," "house painting cost," and "stucco repair and paint" are commercial. "How to paint a ceiling" and "Sherwin Williams hours" are not. Add negatives aggressively: paint store names, "jobs," "salary," "DIY," "Behr," car and boat painting, and "face painting" (you'd be surprised). Check the search terms report every week for the first two months.

Landing pages and the Florida question

Every Florida homeowner asks the same three things: do you handle stucco cracks, what paint holds up to the sun and salt, and are you licensed and insured. Answer all three on the landing page above the fold, with a photo of a real job in a recognizable neighborhood. If your site loads slowly on a phone, fix that before spending a dollar. Our free SEO & AI score will tell you in about a minute where it stands.

Local Services Ads and Google Guaranteed

For painters, Local Services Ads sit above regular search ads and charge per lead rather than per click. Florida painters don't need a state license for most residential work, but LSAs still require background checks and insurance verification. If you qualify, run both. What management should cost

For a painter spending $1,500 to $4,000 a month on clicks, a fair flat management fee is $500 to $1,200. Percentage-of-spend pricing gives an agency a reason to push your budget up, so we prefer flat. How Arbor runs your ads bundles management with the website and tracking so you're not paying three vendors to point fingers at each other.

Painting is seasonal, but the accounts that win are the ones that stay on year-round, tighten targeting, and shift the message with the weather. Start with a core zone, one exterior campaign and one interior campaign, and keep the search terms report honest.
