Google Ads for Florida Auto Detailers: Seasonality, Costs, and Targeting

Google Ads for Florida auto detailers: mobile vs shop targeting, ceramic coating and PPF campaigns, lovebug and pollen season timing, click costs in Tampa.

On this page

Google ads for Florida auto detailers used to be a bad deal: cheap clicks, cheap tickets, and a customer who picked the $99 special and never came back. Ceramic coating and paint protection film changed that. A detailer who runs a $150 wash campaign and a $1,500 coating campaign in the same account is running two different businesses, and the ads need to reflect that. Florida's sun, salt, lovebugs and pollen do the rest of the selling.

Separate the campaigns by ticket size

  • Ceramic coating and PPF. $800-$5,000+ tickets. Higher click cost ($8-$25 in Tampa Bay), longer consideration, competes with shops and dealers. Needs a landing page with real before/after photos and package pricing.
  • Interior and full detail. $150-$400. The volume campaign. Fast decisions, mobile-heavy searches.
  • Mobile detailing. Its own keyword set ("mobile detailing near me," "detailing that comes to you") and the strongest convenience pitch in a market where people sit in traffic on I-275 for a living.
  • Fleet and dealer work. B2B, slow, usually better won by phone and referral than search. A small campaign at most.

Targeting where the cars are

Detailing and coating demand correlates with income and with new-car density. In Tampa Bay, the strongest ZIPs are South Tampa, Westchase, Carrollwood, Lutz, Wesley Chapel, Brandon/FishHawk, Palm Harbor/East Lake, Safety Harbor, Belleair, and the Snell Isle/Old Northeast area of St. Pete. Dealer rows on Dale Mabry, Brandon Boulevard and US-19 in Clearwater are where a lot of new cars start their lives, and buyers search for coating within weeks.

For mobile detailing, draw radius targets around where your van is based and cap it at 20-25 minutes of drive time. A Brandon-based van quoting a Dunedin driveway loses money on the bridge before it starts. For a shop, a 10-mile radius plus the coating keywords set statewide-ish (people will drive an hour for a good PPF install) is the usual split.

Statewide, Miami and Fort Lauderdale are the most competitive coating and PPF markets, with a heavy exotic and luxury segment. Orlando and Jacksonville are more moderate. Naples and Sarasota skew older, wealthier, and seasonal.

The Florida detailing calendar

  • February-April: Pollen season. Every car is yellow, every driver is annoyed. Full-detail and wash volume peaks. Also snowbird departures: Pinellas and Southwest Florida owners want cars cleaned before storage or the drive north.
  • May and September: Lovebug season. Front-end cleanups and paint correction searches spike. A "lovebug removal" ad group is a legitimately good seasonal play.
  • June-September: Heat and daily storms. Sun damage drives ceramic and PPF interest; storm schedules wreck mobile appointments. Interior mold and mildew complaints rise.
  • October-December: Snowbird arrivals, cars that sat all summer, holiday gift certificates. Good window for coating campaigns aimed at people who just bought a car for the season.

What it costs

Wash and detail clicks in Tampa Bay typically run $3-$10; mobile detailing terms $5-$15; ceramic and PPF terms $8-$25. Cost per booked detail in the $15-$50 range is normal. Cost per coating lead often runs $40-$150 with a close rate that depends heavily on how well the landing page explains the packages. A single coating job pays for a month of the detail campaign.

Budgets are small. $500-$2,000/month covers most independent detailers. The volume ceiling is usually your calendar, not your ad spend.

Ads that book instead of price-shop

Lead with the thing Florida drivers actually want fixed: "Pollen and lovebug removal, mobile, from $X" or "Ceramic coating packages from $X, 3-year warranty." Show real photos of Tampa cars, not stock. Include the neighborhood name for mobile ads. Add negatives for "jobs," "products," "supplies," and "how to." Use a booking link rather than a contact form; detail customers want a time slot, not a callback.

The economics here mirror the ones in How Much Do Google Ads Cost for Auto Body Shops?, minus the insurance angle, and if you also do boats, Facebook is often the better channel for that side; see Facebook Ads for Boat Detailers in Tampa Bay.

Management fees

A detailer spending under $2,000/month should pay a flat $300-$800/month for management, ideally bundled with the website so the booking page and the ads are built together. Arbor's monthly plan does exactly that, and how Arbor runs your ads shows what's included.

Run a free SEO & AI score before launching; a detailing site with no prices, no photos and a slow gallery is the most common reason cheap clicks turn into expensive leads.

Detailing in Florida is a business the climate advertises for you. Point the cheap clicks at the pollen, the lovebugs and the sun, and save the real budget for the coating customers who actually pay.
